Newesk: a new community rising from Edzell air base

Newesk sustainable village is the vision for a new community at the former Edzell Air Base – transforming the former military site into an environment perfectly balanced between enterprise and family living.

A sustainable, highly attractive, mixed-use development, Newesk will breathe new life into the area as it is created over a 10 to 15-year period, bringing new jobs and much-needed business and residential property to south Aberdeenshire.

Covering 178 hectares (444 acres), Edzell Air Base has been renowned throughout its life, both as an air force and civilian location, as a vital source of employment.

Centred on generating a vibrant, enterprising environment, Newesk will include local retail facilities and services, supplementing the business and residential development at its heart.

Some 125 hectares (308 acres) of Newesk is intended for business use, to meet growing demand in south Aberdeenshire and Angus, with the remainder suitable for up to 1,000 new properties to meet future housing supply needs. Planning permission has previously been granted for the construction of 250 houses on the site.

The new community is the vision of the local, family-owned business Carnegie Base Services. Since acquiring the site in 2000, the Carnegie family has transformed part of the redundant airfield into a popular, thriving business hub.

Newesk will provide a self-contained enterprise and living destination, an ideal location in which to grow your family or business.
